Azerbaijani president and his wife open Kara Karayev Monument

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban have opened a 3 metre tall memorial to composer Kara Karayev, made by Fazil Najarov, Trend reports.

Aliyev's short speech was followed by speeches from Farhad Badalbeyli, Rector of the Baku Music Academy, Anar, Head of the Azerbaijani Union of Writer and  Arif Melikov, a student of Karayev and People's Artist.

Composer Faraj Karayev, the composer's son is a Professor of the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory.
