Extremists to spend more time in Russian prisons

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a bill with stricter punishments for extremists, RIA Novosti reports.


According to the law, public calls for extremism will be punished with a fine of 100,000-300,000 rubles and 4 years in prison.


Fines for promotion of hatred and humiliation have been increased from 100,000-300,000 rubles to a maximum of 500,000 rubles, imprisonment from 2 to 4 years.


Fines for organising an extremist community will total 200,000-500,000 rubles with up to 5 years of correctional labour, 1-2 years of limited freedom, up to 6 years or jail. Participation in such a community will be punished with 4 years in prison.
