Russia to grant citizenship for 10 million rubles

The Russian Federal Migration Service and the Ministry for Economic Development have composed a bill to grant citizenship to foreign private entrepreneurs who had lived in Russia for at least three years and earned at least 10 million rubles a year, investors who have a share of 10% in a company with a charter capital of at least 100 million rubles, Kommersant reports.Foreigners whose spouse has Russian citizenship and stateless people born in the USSR are the main requesters of Russian citizenship at the moment.The bill says that foreign students who graduated after 1 July, 2002, and worked in Russia for at least three years will get citizenship.Vladislav Griba, Deputy Secretary of the Russian Public Chamber, believes that the new system will be an extra burden for the budget because the government will spend more on its new citizens than it could earn. He also supposes that three years of work in Russia were not enough for a student to be granted citizenship. The official says that the students should be given residency permits at best for at least five years of work.
