Senior Researcher of the Institute of Oriental Studies, Vladimir Sotnikov, told how NATO withdrawal may affect the countries bordering Afghanistan. On February 15 Russia will mark the 25th anniversary of the end of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan. Now the situation is repeated, only this time the Afghan land is being left by the U.S. and its European allies. By the end of 2014 NATO countries plan to withdraw their combat troops. Russia and India, which have traditionally played an important role in strengthening regional cooperation and security, cannot not be concerned about how the situation will develop in this country. Of particular concern is the likelihood of strengthening the position of the "Taliban" movement and the terrorist organization "al-Qaeda" and the expansion of terrorist activity in neighboring countries.
