Olympic Games make world talk about Circassians

Majid Chachukh, head of the public parliament of Adyghe Shapsugs, Vice President of the World Circassian Association, said that the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi had been welcomed by the majority of Circassians, even during the bid to host them. He reminded that the Games promoted peace and socio-economic development. Chachukh emphasized that the Olympic Games were an excellent resource to preserve the historic heritage and culture of the Circassians.

The official reminded that tragic events had happened in the area in the 19th century. But the Games hosted there had a positive impact on the lives of Circassians and brought public attention to their problems.

Chachukh reminded that 90% of Circassians lived abroad. Not a single media resource ignored them during the Olympic Games. Before the Olympic Games, there was a regional purpose program to harmonize ethnic relations and develop national cultures in the Krasnodar Territory. The Olympic Games brought the program to a new level to boost social development and form new centers for culture and education.
