Medvedev signs bill on number of representatives in regional parliaments

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has signed a federal law
establishing the number of lawmakers in regional parliaments, RIA
Novosti
said, citing the Kremlin press-service.

According to the law, the number of members of regional parliaments
will be proportional to the size of the electorate.

If the number of voters in the region is less then 500,000, then from
15 to 50 deputies can be elected to the regional parliament. If the
number of voters is 500 thousand and one million, then 25-70 deputies
can be elected.Regions with between one million and two voters will have 35-90
deputies in parliament. Regions with over 2 million voters will have
from 45 to 110 deputies.

The amendment to the law was passed by the State Duma on March 26 and
approved by the Federation Council on March 31, 2010.
