Tajikistan wants to learn Russian

The authorities of Tajikistan have asked Russia to send 400 Russian language teachers, said the speaker of the Russian Federation Council Valentina Matvienko, who is now in Tajikistan on a visit.

"It is a good step from the side of Tajikistan," said Matvienko, adding that "it is necessary to discuss tge living conditions and salaries of the teachers," reports Interfax.

The Russian language is being taught in all schools of Tajikistan, while in 166 schools Russian is the only language of education. The population of the country is about eight million, one million of whom live and work in Russia.
