Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends Russian citizens to avoid visiting Georgia
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recommended Russian citizens avoid visiting Georgia due to criminal proceedings against foreigners that visit Abkhazia or South Ossetia without informing Tbilisi, which result in fines or imprisonment, the official spokesman of the ministry Andrey Nesterenko said in his commentaries, RIA Novosti reports.
Georgia has a law on the occupied territories of 2009. The law has been remarked on by the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe. Georgia is trying to isolate Abkhazia and South Ossetia from the rest of the world at any cost, says the message.
Nesterenko noted that Russian citizens are systematically becoming victims of Georgian outrage, regardless of whether they have visited Abkhazia and South Ossetia or not.
Georgia broke off all diplomatic relations with Russia when Moscow recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
