Doku Umarov dead – Caucasus Emirate

The Caucasus Emirate website declared militant leader Doku Umarov dead yesterday.

There have been dozens of reports about his death since 2000. Chechen Leader Ramzan Kadyrov said before the Sochi Olympic Games this year that Umarov was dead.

Umarov founded the Caucasus Emirate in 2007. Militants say that Umarov joined them in 1994. No clear details about his death have been given on the militant website.

Kadyrov commented that terrorists admitting the death of their leader themselves needed no other confirmation. He added that Ukrainian nationalist Yarosh was in fact asking a dead man for help, hinting that the nationalist must have mental disorders.
