Turkey to replace German guns with own models

The Turkish Defense Ministry has concluded tests of the Mehmetcik submachine guns. The ministry plans to use them to replace 500,000 Heckler & Koch G3 battle rifles, Defense News reports.

MKE is also producing 200 new guns.

Mehmetcik has been under development by MKE according to a contract with the Turkish Defense Industry Secretariat (SSM) since 2009. It is based on HK416 (Germany). The gun weighs about 3.6kg. It has a caliber of 5.56mm, a clip with 30 rounds. Optic sights, laser pointers and gripes can be attached to Mehmetcik.
