Ukraine resigns as CIS chair

Ukraine has resigned as the chair of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the country's Foreign Minister Yevgeniy Perebeynis is quoted as saying by Interfax. 

The Ukrainian minister also says his country is going to reconsider the appropriateness of its membership in the body. According to the official, the aim of the CIS is acting in interests of certain members of the organization rather than all of them.
