Turkey sends humanitarian aid to Syria for the first time since 2011
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaFor the first time in the three years of conflict between Damascus and the opposition, a convoy with humanitarian aid was allowed into Syria from Turkey. This was reported by the UN.
"The convoy with vital supplies for thousands of desperate people in northern Syria today left the Turkish border crossing Nusaybin to the city of Qamishli," ITAR-TASS quotes a statement by the Coordinator of the UN humanitarian operations in the region, Nigel Fisher. According to him, "for the first time in the three years of bitter conflict the UN was able to deliver aid to Syria from Turkey."
Recall that the UN Security Council on February 22 this year adopted a resolution calling on the authorities of Syria and the opposition to take measures to facilitate humanitarian access to affected areas. In particular, the document insists on establishing direct delivery of humanitarian assistance to the affected areas across the borders of Syria.
