Armenia wishes to receive a loan from Russia to extend the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant’s operations until 2026.

The aforesaid is stated in the Extension Program decision, which was adopted at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting, reports news.am.

Accordingly, one week after the signing of the Armenian-Russian Intergovernmental Loan Agreement, an agreement with Russtam Service Company of Russia’s Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation is planned to be signed on the comprehensive audit of the plant.

A professional risk audit is planned to be conducted over the next two months and, one month later, an agreement with Russtam Service is expected to be signed for the upgrading of the plant’s energy unit.

Vahram Petrosyan, Secretary of the Atomic Energy Security Council under the President of Armenia, had informed that the restoration of a nuclear plant with a reactor similar to that of the ANPP is estimated at $120-160 million.
