The Russian Defense Ministry has decided not to move the headquarters
of the naval forces from Moscow to St. Petersburg, RIA Novosti
reports, citing a high-ranking official.

The headquarters were planned to be moved to the Admiralty in St. Petersburg.

State Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov proposed the move in 2007. Many
well-known military commanders subsequently spoke out against the
issue. They said it would be very expensive and would reduce the
controllability of fleet.
