Headquarters of Russian naval forces to remain in Moscow
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe Russian Defense Ministry has decided not to move the headquarters
of the naval forces from Moscow to St. Petersburg, RIA Novosti
reports, citing a high-ranking official.
The headquarters were planned to be moved to the Admiralty in St. Petersburg.
State Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov proposed the move in 2007. Many
well-known military commanders subsequently spoke out against the
issue. They said it would be very expensive and would reduce the
controllability of fleet.
