North Ossetian ex-president marks 80th birthday
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaNorth Ossetian second President Alexander Dzasokhov is marking his 80th birthday. He has received the Glory of Ossetia order for contribution to socio-economic and socio-political development of the republic. North Ossetian President Taymuraz Mamsurov sent him a telegram congratulating the ex-president.
Alan Kasayev, deputy head of the Journalism Mastery Subdepartment of the MSLU, called Dzasokhov the only North Caucasus native to become a member of the Politburo in the Soviet times. Dzasokhov was the first secretary of AULYCL of Ordzhonikidze (Vladikavkaz). Kasayev reminded that the politician was supervising the International Organization for Solidarity of Asian and African People’s to resolve conflicts. Dzasokhov worked as the first secretary and first deputy chairman for 20 years.
Dzasokhov became the USSR ambassador to Syria. Bashar al-Assad’s father Hafez called Dzasokhov the only diplomat welcome at any office in Syria. Dzasokhov won the presidential polls of North Ossetia with 77% of votes in 1998. He had over 100 visits throughout the republic.
Kasayev reminded that Ichkeria President Aslan Maskhadov asked Dzasokhov to give his wife and daughter refuge during the Second Chechen War. Kusama Maskhadova and her daughter spent about a year in Vladikavkaz under Dzasokhov’s supervision.
Ruslan Grinberg, director of the RAS Institute for Economics, called Dzasokhov a wise man, moderate, balanced, intelligent. He noted the ex-president’s role in the Supreme Council, Duma, Federation Council.
