Federation Council: Russia will not send peacekeepers to Ukraine without UN Security Council sanctions

Russia will not send its peacekeepers to Ukraine, if it is not given the sanction of the UN Security Council,  the head of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security, Viktor Ozerov said.

"Our peacekeepers can only act within the framework of international legal norms , we had examples of the presence of peacekeeping forces on the territory of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, but it was within the framework of the CIS, however just bringing our peacekeepers to Donetsk or somewhere else at the request of local authorities contradicts international norms and principles," Interfax reports.

Speaking about the situation in Eastern Ukraine, Viktor Ozerov said "influencing the situation from the outside would be counterproductive."
