President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso says that the EU will consider the South Gas Corridor project rather the South Stream as a political priority, if Azerbaijan resists Russian pressure.

Vestnik Kavkaza discussed the issue with Director of the World Energy Markets Centre Vyacheslav Kulagin and Azerbaijani lawmaker and political analyst Rasim Musabekov.

According to the Russia expert, Europe is trying to pressure Gazprom rather to support a particular project. However, from the point of view of the economy, Europe is interested in Russian gas. "There are many European company, which need cheep sources of energy, they will not neglect their interests for the sake of politics," he says.

The Azerbaijani expert believes that President Barroso's remarks are less important than obne may think. "The fact that the prokect is now considered a political prioirty doesn't mean that will soon receive better investment. From the financila point of view nothing is actually going to change," the Azerbaijani lawmaker underlines.
