US and French ships enter Black Sea

USS Donald Cook destroyer and France’s Dupuy de Lome have entered the Black Sea, RIA Novosti reports.

USS Donald Cook has become the third US ship sent to the Black Sea lately. USS Taylor frigate entered the sea in February 2014 to secure the Olympic Games. USS Truxtun entered the Black Sea in March to take part in joint drills with Bulgarian and Romanian ships. Truxtun stayed for 14 days.

According to the Montreux Convention, ships of countries with no Black Sea coastlines can only stay in the sea for 21 days. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that US ships were staying in the sea longer than the convention allowed.
