Russia’s Caspian Fleet undergoes sudden inspection

A sudden inspection has started in the Caspian Fleet of Russia under command of Vice Admiral Sergey Alekminsky, RIA Novosti reports.

The inspection will last 7 days. About 10 mine-sweeping vessels, motor boats and auxiliary ships with over 400 sailors will be checked. A group of ships will pass over 350 miles along the Volga-Caspian Canal to Kaspiysk for training.

Russia renewed sudden inspections in 2013 for the first time since the 1990s. Experts approve Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu’s idea to make unscheduled inspections to check readiness of the military for action.
