Israel commemorates Holocaust victims

Israel and the world are commemorating victims of the Holocaust tragedy. The commemoration is linked to the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising (April 19 – May 16, 1943). The Uprising coincides with April 28 on the Jewish Calendar.UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova said that the history of the WWII period had had an impact on all people, regardless of origin, culture and religion. Two sirens will commemorate victims of the Holocaust in Israel. The Yad Vashem Holocaust Research Center will host the main ceremony. Yesterday, six torches were lit to commemorate 6 million Jews killed during the war. Heads of the country attended the ceremony.Representatives of the EU in Israel and heads of diplomatic missions made joint declarations.
