Turkish president wants military modernization

Turkish President Abdullah Gul said that the Turkish Army and other structures needed modernization to keep up with the rest of the world.

The Turkish parliament reduced the terms of compulsory military service from 15 to 12 months in October 2013. The Turkish Armed Forces consist of the Ground Forces, Naval Forces, Airborne Forces, the Gendarmerie and the Coast Guard.
