Azerbaijan marks Victory Day

Azerbaijan is marking Victory Day today.

In WWII, Azerbaijan formed 87 battalions of fighter planes and 1124 self-defense groups. Over 600,000 Azerbaijanis went to the front lines in 1941-1945, fighting from the Caucasus to Berlin. About 130 of them became Heroes of the Soviet Union, 30 received Orders of Glory. A total of 170,000 Azerbaijani soldiers received USSR orders and medals.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev took part in the ceremony marking the 69th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
