40 countries discuss global security in Moscow

The third Conference on International Security under the guidance of the Defense Ministry of Russia has opened today in Moscow. The event will last for two days; delegations of more than 40 countries and international organizations are participating in it, including nine defense ministers. The Defense Minister of Russia, Sergei Shoygu, will conduct meetings with the Defense Ministers of Iran, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Armenia, and Serbia within the conference. The topic of the conference is searching for ways to stabilize the situation in the Middle East, North Africa and Afghanistan. The participants are also set to discuss color revolutions.

 

President of Russia Vladimir Putin sent an address to the participants in the conference. He urged the international community to reject archaic logic, geopolitical games with zero benefit and interference in the affairs of other countries, provoking color revolutions.

 

Sergeil Shoygu touched on the situation in Ukraine in his speech. He noted that after the forced overthrow of President Yanukovych, the country “fell into civil war.” According to him, a spot of tension has been artificially created in Europe, and it negatively influenced global security. 

 

The Defense Minister informed that Russia has strengthened its military bases abroad and is participating in improvement of the armed forces of the CSTO and the SOC. 

 

The Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergei Lavrov, also spoke about color revolutions. He spoke about “attempts to impose certain recipes of internal changes on nations, without taking into consideration their traditions and ethnic peculiarities, dealing with “democracy export.” 

 

The head of the General Staff of Russia, Valery Gerasimov, said in his speech that there was information that private military companies were participating in the events in Ukraine. According to him, the dynamic of developments in the country makes any forecasting impossible. The Ukrainian crisis was leading to a tense military and political situation in Europe.
