Russian Foreign Ministry: Syrian opposition must stop violence

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has met with representatives of the Syrian oppositional "Front for Change and Liberation" and urged them to "actively participate in the political process" and " constructively contribute to ending the violence" in Syria.

At the meeting, the Russian Foreign Minister and members of the Syrian delegation discussed options for the development of the situation in Syria, "with an emphasis on the need to continue an active search for a peaceful settlement of the crisis in this country."

"Lavrov, in turn, confirmed the continued readiness of the Russian side to maintain contact with all the Syrians who are concerned about the fate of the country, and spoke in favor of the consolidation of all patriotic forces of Syria on the platform of a broad national dialogue and countering terrorism and extremism," RIA Novosti quotes the Russian Foreign Ministry .

"The minister has called on the Syrian patriotic opposition forces to actively participate in the political process, to constructively contribute to ending the violence in Syria, expanding the local truces and solving the humanitarian problems of the affected population," the Department of Information and Press Department of the Russian Federation reports.
