Russian defense minister visits construction of military town in Krasnodar

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu is inspecting the construction of a military town for the 7th Air Assault Division of the Airborne Forces, RIA Novosti reports.


The minister visited the Rayevsky Training Center. Colonel Roman Breus, the commander of the division, said that a reconnaissance battalion and the first battalions of regiments had been formed. 80% of the contract-based groups will be formed this year.


Breus noted that modernization of the range will be accomplished in 2015. It has an area of 5x10.8km. It allows one platoon to train every hour.


Shoygu observed the weapons and equipment the airborne troops were armed with. He visited the headquarters and residential rooms of the reconnaissance battalion, as well as its canteen, and criticized builders for certain flaws.
