Azerbaijan cannot be described in two words, Russian actor says

Soviet and Russian actor Emmanuil Vitorgan discussed his native city, Baku, and the role of culture in society in a recent interview with Vetsnik Kavkaza. According to the actor, no one can describe Azerbaijan in just two words.

"In the East people are different. They are very sympathetic, they are always friendly and care about each other," he says.

According to the actor, even though he was very young when he left Baku, he cherishes the memories of the life there. "I remember everything and I am very thankful. I love this country and this city, which I have recently visited," Vitorgan says.

Speaking about the region itself, the actor stresses that the people in the Caucasus have always respected both freedom and kindness.

According to him, culture is the key to successful resolution of the remaining conflicts. 'No one and nothing can survive without culture. I am speaking about culture as a whole system of social interaction rather than theatre, cinema etc.," the actor says.
