Makhachkala ex-mayor denies ever wanting to head city

Makhachkala ex-Mayor Sayid Amirov said that he had survived over 15 assassination attempts, he had never wanted to be the mayor and had not been a rival of Sagid Murtazaliyev, the alleged assassination target of Amirov, RIA Novosti reports.

According to a witness, Murtazaliyev of the Northern Alliance wanted to become the head of Dagestan and Amirov had the same plans. Amirov said that Murtazaliyev had admitted disinterest in becoming the head of the republic in court.
