Russian president supports Poroshenko's decision to cease fire

Russian President Vladimir Putin supports his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko's decision to suspend the anti-terror operation in the eastern part of the country, the Russian presidential staff says.

Putin also calls on both sides to start peace talks.

The Russian president admits however that Poroshenko's peace plan seems unlikely to work as it has no provision concerning talks with the rebels.

The Ukrainian president has announced recently that the Ukrainian military would stop fire for a week so that the rebels have a chance to surrender.
