Azerbaijan opposes US-sponsored resolution on Ukraine in PACE

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is now in session in Baku. Members of the assembly are set to discuss a draft resolution condemning Russia's aggression in Ukraine prepared by US Senator Benjamin Cardin.

According to the document, Russia has violated the Helsinki principles.

The Russian Federation should immediately return Crimea to Ukraine, the draft resolution underlines. Otherwise the Council of Europe's member-states are expected to impose sanctions on the country.

The Azerbaijani delegation at the PACE has rejected the document, saying that Azerbaijan has been waiting for a similar resolution on Karabakh for 22 years.
