Rebels in the north and east of Syria request the National Coalition, interim government the Supreme Military Council and other authoritative structures to send reinforcements within a week to weaken the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS), RIA Novosti reports.

The opposition says that ISIS threatens their efforts to oust Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

ISIS declared the formation of the Islamic Caliphate on June 29 and urged Jihadists all over the world to join it. The organization started military activities in the northern and western parts of Iraq in June, supported by Sunni troops of what used to be Saddam Hussein’s army. ISIS has taken over several cities in Iraq and on the border of Syria and Jordan.
