Ukraine has 8 alternatives to Russian gas: bio-fuel (for residential areas with a population of 20,000 people or less), gas synthesis from coal, deep gas extraction, hydrocoal fuel, accumulation of heat, expansion of liquefied gas terminals, use of SG synthesized gas in chemical industry, use of SNG synthesized gas, the Ukrainian Ministry for Finances reports.

Ukrainian Minister for Energy and Coal Industry Yuri Prodan said that the country could not fill containers with 20 billion cubic meters of gas.

GSE says that Ukraine stockpiled 14,092 billion cubic meters of gas, increasing the volume by 600 million cubic meters in the last week of June. Andey Kobolev, the head of Naftogaz, said that 22-25 million cubic meters of gas were pumped into gas holders every day. Thus, Ukraine will have filled them with 1.7 billion cubic meters by the end of summer. It needs 18 billion cubic meters for winter.

Ukraine offered the EU to launch gas reverse of 30 billion cubic meters a year through Slovakia in late June. Gazprom Head Alexey Miller warned that Russia would reduce gas pumping to Europe for launching gas reverse. The company started selling gas to Ukraine using the pre-pay system on June 16.
