Gold-plate horn found in Ingushetia

 

A gold-plate horn of the 15th century has been found in a cave 3,000 meters high in Ingushetia by Magomed Arkhiyev, a hunter from Jeyrakh. The horn was made from an aurochs or an ox and placed at the entrance of the cave that presumably served as a shrine. The horn was hanging at a height of 15-20 meters.Locals needed about a week to find a path to the cave. Specialists say that paganism in the area existed until the early 19th century and such shrines were numerous, according to Zaret Mestoyev, an archeologist of Ingushetia.
