UN to continue discussions to appoint special representative for Syria

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said that negotiations on the appointment of a special representative for Syria will continue. He did not confirm the appointment of Steffan de Mistura (Italy) for the post, ITAR-TASS reports.

Ban Ki-moon met Syrian Permanent Representative Bashar Jaafari yesterday.

Moscow welcomes the appointment of Mistura. Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin called him “a very good candidate.”
