Azerbaijan offers railways to transport U.S. equipment from Afghanistan

Azerbaijani Railways (ADY) and the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway currently under construction will transport U.S. military equipment from Afghanistan. It will benefit the Caucasus Corridor developed by the U.S. military.The Corridor will run from Herta (Afghanistan) to Mary (Turkmenistan) through Kushka, then towards Port Turkmenbashi on the Caspian coast, to Batumi (Georgia) or Turkey.At least 2,200 containers and vehicles will be transported from autumn 2014 until the end of 2016.A ferry terminal at the Baku International Maritime Trade Port in Alyat (65km south of Baku) will have been launched by autumn 2014. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars line will open in 2015. ADY and its Georgian counterpart resumed use of the Baku-Poti-Baku container train.
