Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has declared an amnesty in order to mark the Eid al-Fitr holiday, known in Russia as Uraza-Bayram. The corresponding document has been drafted by the head of the Iranian penitentiary system, Sadig Amoli Larijani.

The amnesty is expected to affect those who have been convicted for a year or less.

A similar move has been made by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov. He has pardoned 1095 convicts.
