The first president of Georgia, Zviad Gamsakhurdiya, killed himself, his former bodyguard Robinzon Margvelani told a meeting of the parliamentary commission investigating the former leader's death, NewsGeorgia reports.
Margvelani said that the first president decided to kill himself due to the situation he was living in in the last 10 months of his life. "President Gamsakhurdiya was persecuted and lived in poverty. He also had some health problems," the former bodyguard said.

But the chairman of the commission, the first president's son Konstantin, absolutely disagrees with this statement.

The commission chairman said that Margvelani had changed his statement.

The commission will analyze the information in a few days before coming to a conclusion.
