First-Rank Captain Damir Shaykhutdinov, the head of the search and rescue service of the Russian Naval Forces, said that new Kaspiy training equipment imitating submarines or ships has arrived to help train divers, RIA Novosti reports.

The equipment will be used for advanced simulation of underwater search and rescue operations. Further practice will take place at annual drills of the North, Pacific, Black Sea and Baltic Fleets.

Shaykhutdinov noted that a unique Bester-1 underwater machine was being tested. He reminded that Russia had advanced SVU-5 diving equipment.

Today is the 14th anniversary of the sinking of the Kursk submarine in the Barents Sea. 118 sailors of the North Fleet died. Russia started modernizing rescue equipment and took additional safety measures after the accident.
