According to recent data provided by the World Health Organization, 1093 cases of contamination with the Ebola disease virus have been registered since February 2014 in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. 660 of the cases led to deaths. The virus was discovered in Ebola, Zaire in 1976. Since that time the virus has struck other continents. At first it was believed that the virus came from apes, but it has been then established that it came from bats, whom the local population consumes as food.
