Presidential elections showed weakness of opposition, Turkey's Erdoğan says
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe presidential elections held recently in Turkey have showed the weakness of the country's opposition, incumbent Turkish Prime Minister and President-elect Recep Tayyip Erdoğan says.
Addressing attendees of a conference devoted to the 13th anniversary of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), Erdoğan said that the country needs a new opposition which will actually be able to compete with the ruling party.
The current opposition is dated and weak, he said.
Erdogan recently won the presidential elections in the first round, receiving around 52 percent of the vote. His major competitor from the Republican People's Party (CHP), Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, received only 38.5 percent.
