Armenian Press Review (August 19-25, 2014)
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThese days Armenian media are discussing the coming visit of the Russian prime minister to Yerevan.
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev is going to visit Armenia at the beginning of September. The head of the Russian cabinet has not visited the country for six years, the Zhamanak newspaper writes.
According to the newspaper, visits of prime ministers always have an economic undertone and Medvedev's visit to Armenia is no exception. The authors of the article published by the newspaper believe that the officials are going to focus on Russian-Armenian economic cooperation, which is extremely important due to the economic sanctions imposed on Russia by the US and the EU.
"The problem is that Armenia will be affecting by the sanctions anyway. This means that Armenia will pay a great price for becoming Russia's political appendage. If Russia does not support Armenia financially, it will lead to an economic collapse," the authors write.
According to the Aravot newspaper, the sanctions imposed on Russia and Russia's ban on EU and US imports allow Armenia to increase food deliveries to Russia. For instance, the Russian wine market is open for Armenian wine, the article reads.
Armenia is ready to increase exports of other products as well, the Graparak newspaper informs. "The cabinet has urged companies to increase food delieveries to Russia and banks to provide agricultural firms with loans so that they will be able to enhance production," the newspaper cites former minister of agriculture Grant Bagratyan as saying.
