Russia will not adopt single history book

Russian President Vladimir Putin said in February 2013 that Russian middle schools needed single history books without controversies and dual interpretations. The Russian History Society passed a common history and cultural standard.
The new standard will be implemented on September 1, although no history book meeting the standard has been published yet. Sergey Zhuravlev, deputy director of the RAS Russian History Institute, said in May that retraining teachers based on the standard had started, but the publication of new history books was uncertain. The first variants should be ready in autumn.
