Russia and Nato approaching a new cold war, expert says

Russia and the North Atlantic Alliance will not manage to restore their former type of relations, the head of the European Security Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Dmitry Danilov, told Vestnik Kavkaza in an interview.

Last week Nato's Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen accused Russia of destabilizing the situation in Eastern Ukraine and underlined that the region is experiencing Russia's direct military invasion.

According to Danilov, the peace plan sponsored by the Russian president is indeed a chance to overcome the crisis.

Still, it seems like it would be very difficult to resolve the conflict peacefully in the very near future.

"This scenario seems very problematic and it will not be realized in the very near future," he said.
