Medvedev proposes Alexey Orlov as head of Kalmyk Republic
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaRussian President Dmitry Medvedev has introduced the candidature of
Alexey Orlov to the Kalmyk parliament. Orlov was earlier the first
deputy prime minister, RIA Novosti reports.
Kirsan Ilumzhinov, who has headed the region for 17 years, will step
down on October 24.
Ilumzhinov plans to continue his work at the International Chess Federation.
There were three other candidates, besides Orlov: Deputy head of the
administration of Volgograd Region Aexander Dorzheyev, Chairman of
Kalmyk Parliament Anatoliy Kozachenko and Deputy Head of the Federal
Service for Financial Markets Bembya Khulkhachiyev.
