Iran to open "water markets" in 609 regions

Iranian Minister for Energy Hamid Chitchian said that the country will open "water markets" (mechanisms for purchase and distribution of water) in 609 regions, according to a decision made by the Iranian Supreme Council for Water Resources to improve efficiency of water usage. The minister added that NGOs should monitor water consumption.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani had said earlier that the administration will grant up to $2 billion to solve water problems.
