Kokov becomes leader of Kabardino-Balkaria

All 70 members of the Kabardino-Balkarian parliament have voted for Yuri Kokov as the leader of the republic.

Russian President Vladimir Putin introduced three candidates for the post: Kokov, Vice Prime Minister of Kabardino-Balkaria Irina Maryash and Kabardino-Balkarian Minister for Economic Development Alia Musukov.

Direct elections of leaders in Kabardino-Balkaria were ended on April 2, 2014. Kokov has been the acting head of the region since December 2013.
