Iran sets record for electricity exchange
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaIran has swapped over 1.5GW of electricity with Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, Armenia and Turkey. It is a new record for the country, exceeding the old record of over 500MW, TASS reports.
Iran has been swapping electricity since the 1980s, when the USSR was its main partner. Iran was supplying the Trans-Caucasus with electricity in exchange for power from Central Asia. Iran is currently providing electricity for Armenia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Azerbaijan and Afghanistan. Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian noted that foreign sanctions had had no effect on power exports to neighbours.
