Ukraine's parliamentary elections proceed in a calm atmosphere

The early parliamentary elections held in Ukraine on Sunday have been proceeding in a calm atmosphere. As of 2pm Moscow time the turnout constituted over 20 percent.

29 political parties are competing for places in the Verkhovna Rada. Among the most influential ones are the Poroshenko Bloc headed by President Petro Poroshenko, the Popular Front led by Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and Acting Parliamentary Speaker Oleksandr Turchynov, the Fatherland party headed by former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko and the Radical Party of Oleg Lyashko.

The elections were declared after the dissolution of the ruling coalition.
