Georgian general says army is beyond politics
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaMajor-General Vakhtang Kapanadze, the chief of the General Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces, said today, commenting on yesterday's dismissal of Defense Minister Irakli Alasania by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, that the army was an independent institution uninvolved in political affairs, Trend reports.
Concerning Alasania, Kapanadze characterized his work at the Defense Ministry as successful and one of the main stages of the development of the Georgian Armed Forces.
Garibashvili dismissed the minister for allegedly politicizing an investigation into corruption at the ministry.
