Members of Georgian Dream assault head of municipality

Ruslan and Beslan Alkhanashvili, members of the Georgian Dream coalition, have beaten up Nodar Chichiashvili, the head of the Akhmety municipality in Khalatsani (Pankisi Gorge), resulting in his hospitalization, News Georgia reports.

Human rights activist Jokola Achishvili was hospitalized with head injuries. A special police unit was called to stop the fight.

Ruslan Alkhanashvili was detained, his brother Beslan admitted assaulting Chichiashvili. The two were released after Zurab Zviadauri, a friend of the Alkhanashvili brothers and a member of the parliamentary majority,  arrived at the police station at which they had been detained.

According to human rights activist Achiashvili, the fight between Chichiashvili and the brothers was provoked by a car accident that happened 3 years ago, when Chichiashvili’s vehicle crashed into theirs. The Akhanashvili brothers had promised vengeance, resulting in the fight yesterday.
