Turkish nationalists attack American soldiers

 

An incident occurred in the tourist district of Istanbul when nationalists poured red paint on American military personnel and attempted to put bags on their heads, shouting the slogans "Yankee, go home", and "down with American imperialism". The soldiers, who were returning from NATO manoeuvers in the Black Sea, were dressed in civilian clothes. They barely managed to escape from the nationalists. Turkish police detained 12 of the assailants.The Nationalist Union of Youth of Turkey has claimed responsibility for the incident.
